Seiko Relaunches Its Bang-for-Buck Seiko 5 Sports Collection

Watch lovers rejoice as Seiko has just announced the relaunch of its high-value range of watches – Seiko 5. As a line that was originally introduced in 1963, the Seiko 5 range of sports watches was targeted towards a younger generation that were looking for an affordable watch that packed incredible value. The watch line gets its “5” name from having five distinct attributes: it required a day/date window, an automatic movement, water resistance to a tolerable degree, a durable case and bracelet, and a crown at the 4 o’clock position. Having all attributes combined into an affordable wristwatch is what led to the success of the brand; the wristwatches were often just as accurate and more reliable than well established Swiss watch brands. The new relaunch will see 27 new watches that are spread across five categories: Sports, Suits, Specialist, Street and Sense. The dial and bezel will take shape in ways that correspond with their categories. For example, “Sports” sees a traditional stainless steel bracelet matched with a crisp blue dial, “Specialist” matches a black leather strap to a rose gold-plated case, and “Street” features a fully blacked-out makeover. Each 42.5mm watch sees Hardlex crystal, a display caseback, 100m of water resistance, and is powered by Seiko’s Caliber 4R36 movement which features a 41-hour power reserve.Look for the new Seiko 5 collection to drop this September priced from €280 EUR – €340 EUR (approximately $315 USD – $380 USD).For more watch news, IWC Schaffhausen’s Pilot’s Watch Timezoner Spitfire Edition celebrates the aircraft’s “Longest Flight.”Click here to view full gallery at HYPEBEAST
