UPDATE (1 June 2019): Robert Pattinson has officially been casted as the next Batman. Warner Bros. confirmed that the young actor and the studio have agreed to an undisclosed deal, effectively green lighting the upcoming reboot. Pre-production is expected to begin this summer.
ORIGINAL STORY (16 May 2019): According to reports, Twilight actor Robert Pattinson is set to play Bruce Wayne for DC Comics and Warner Bros.’ upcoming Batman reboot.
The Batman will reboot the Caped Crusader’s arc after the not-so-well-received Batman vs Superman and Justice League films, and the former teenage vampire heartthrob is currently in talks to play the Dark Knight himself. While sources suggest that the deal has not yet been sealed, they also revealed that the actor is currently the top choice and the arrangement is expected to close very soon. If he secures the role, Pattinson will be the youngest actor to ever play Batman on the silver screen, at age 32.
The Batman will be directed by Matt Reeves, whose other works include the last two Planet of the Apes sequels, alongside his collaborator from those titles Dylan Clark. Reeves picks up the franchise after Ben Affleck left the acting and directorial posts due to creative differences. While there’s no news yet on when production of the reboot will begin, filming is expected to commence in late 2019 or early 2020. The movie is scheduled to hit cinemas June 25, 2021.
Fans of the DC Universe should definitely stay tuned for more updates to come.
