Kapital Channels ‘The Old Man and the Sea’ With New Denim Bucket Hats

With its latest denim bucket hats, Japanese brand Kapital seeks to employ its inspiration from Ernest Hemingway’s seminal classic, The Old Man and the Sea. While it is often hard to depict the fascination with Americana in pieces of clothing, these two hats might showcase such a backdrop in a more apt manner. The tale, which depicts an old man’s battle to catch a giant marlin — especially after unable to catch anything for nearly 84 days — is depicted within these hats in two ways. The first of the two, the deep indigo version, features a 12oz denim that has been meticulously reinforced with layered stitching and qualitative construction — as Kapital iterates, “the denim and stitching threads are washed until they shrink and twist…like old cracked, wrinkled hands.” Undoubtedly, this iteration metaphorically showcases the fisherman before his struggle with the giant marlin. The second utilizes the same base fabric but has been distressed, toting an extensively worn look while retaining identical construction. The latter hat seeks to depict the tale’s end, given an aged characteristic that further depicts the fisherman’s tumultuous adventure. You can check out both pieces in the gallery above, and if you’re interested in picking one up for yourself, head over to Kapital’s website where they are priced at ¥9,500 JPY and ¥18,100 JPY (approximately $87 USD and $166 USD).For more related news, Kapital recently shared its extensive Fall/Winter 2019 lookbook.Click here to view full gallery at HYPEBEAST
