While the live-adaptation film continues to play in theaters all over the world, The Pokémon Company has just announced a sequel to the Detective Pikachu video game will be releasing for Nintendo Switch.
Tsunekazu Ishihara, president and CEO of The Pokémon Company, announced a follow-up to the original Nintendo 3DS game during the Pokémon 2019 Press Conference held earlier today in Tokyo. Although no further details were shared, it is believed the sequel will followup on the cliffhanger left in the original 2016 mystery game seeing Tim’s father still missing and Detective Pikachu without his memory. Additionally, the sequel will be a direct continuation of the story instead of a re-release or expansion port.
“Can’t wait to keep sleuthing with [Detective Pikachu]? Plans are under way to bring this crime-solving Pikachu to Nintendo Switch!” the company said on Twitter. “The details of this game are still a mystery…so keep checking back here for more clues.” Keep it here for more details when they surface.
The hit 3DS inspired the film of the same name which saw Ryan Reynolds voicing the lovable creature. Detective Pikachu has garnered high praises from both the film community and Pokémon fans alike, and holds the best opening weekend for a video game film adaptation.
Pokémon Sleep was also revealed today which will allow players to “wake up with Pokémon every morning.”
Pokémon also launched the Rumble Rush mobile game earlier this month.
